What does UV window film actually do?
UV film is a thin, clear layer bonded to the inside of your existing glass. It filters out the ultraviolet light that passes straight through normal windows. You keep your view and your natural light. The film simply strips out the part of the sunlight that causes the damage.
Plain glass stops some UVB, but lets most UVA through. UVA is the part that fades your furnishings and reaches you while you sit inside. That is the gap UV film closes.
Why UV protection matters on the Sunshine Coast
We live outdoors here, and our homes are built for light. Big windows, glass doors and open living areas are wonderful, but they let a lot of UV inside. On a bright Sunshine Coast day you can be getting real UV exposure while sitting in your own lounge room.
The same rays are hard on your home. UV is the main cause of faded lounges, timber floors, rugs, curtains and artwork. Once colour is gone, it does not come back.
Good to know: UV film is not the same as dark tint. Most UV films are almost clear, so rooms stay bright. You are blocking invisible light, not visible light.
Will UV film stop my furniture fading?
It slows fading dramatically. UV causes most of it, so cutting almost all the UV is the single biggest thing you can do. Heat and visible light play a smaller part, which is why nothing stops fading completely.

Will it make my rooms dark?
No. This surprises people. Clear UV films block the UV while letting nearly all the visible light through. From inside, most people cannot tell the film is there at all.
If you also want less glare or more privacy, there are tinted and reflective options. I will show you samples so you can see the difference before you decide.

What UV window film costs
Home window film runs roughly $60 to $80 per square metre fitted, depending on the film type and brand. Most homes land between $500 and $1,500 all up, based on the number and size of your windows.

How much UV does window film block?
Quality window film blocks up to 99% of the UV coming through your glass. That covers both UVA and UVB. It is the same protection level whether the film is clear or tinted.
Is UV film clear or does it look tinted?
Most UV films are almost completely clear. You keep your view and your natural light, and from inside you usually cannot tell it is there. Tinted versions are available if you also want glare control or privacy.
Does UV film also reduce heat?
A clear UV film mainly targets UV, so it makes only a small difference to heat. If you want a cooler room as well, a solar heat-control film blocks a large share of the sun’s heat and still gives you the full UV protection.
How long does UV window film last?
Professional-grade film lasts many years and the films I fit carry a manufacturer-backed lifetime warranty. Quality film on a clean install will not bubble, peel or turn purple the way cheap film does.
Can you fit UV film to double-glazed windows?
Sometimes, but not always. Some films trap heat between the panes and can stress the glass or void the glass warranty. I check your glass type before recommending a film, so you get the benefit without the risk.
